Become better parent, partner, programmer

As a parent, partner, and avid learner, finding the time and energy to improve in all areas of life can be challenging. This is particularly true when attempting to incorporate meditation into a daily routine. I found myself struggling to connect with my children, maintain a healthy relationship with my partner, and still have the energy to learn new skills after a long day at work.

My journey towards self-improvement began with my efforts to become a better father and connect more with my sons. However, after exhausting days at work and dealing with dinner tantrums over vegetables, I struggled to find the energy to learn something new in the vast world of programming. Despite my love for meditation and the way it calmed me down and focused my mind, meditating on three different themes per day on a specific time schedule was too difficult to achieve. Time constraints, space constraints, and low energy all hindered my daily efforts.

So, I created my own method. Instead of trying to meditate on different themes each day, I chose a book that related to one of my areas of interest and read it for 15–20 minutes each day. The book didn’t need to be particularly good or well-written. Sometimes the book was fantastic, and other times it was mediocre at best. But regardless of the quality of the writing, reading allowed me to focus on the book’s teachings. By doing so, I was able to imprint the knowledge and lessons learned into my future self. I could then apply this new knowledge and understanding to my parenting, partnership, and personal growth.

In conclusion, finding the time and energy to improve oneself can be a challenge, particularly when attempting to integrate meditation and learning. You may find that this approach allows you to concentrate on a topic and apply the knowledge gained to real-life situations, just like traditional meditation.
